ARCHBISHOP REDWOOD

TRIBUTE AT GRAVESIDE BISHOP BRODIE'S EULOGY LOYALTY TO NEW HEAD [BY TETjKGRAPH PItKSS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Wednesday Promises of fealty, loyalty and affection to the new head of the Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand were made on behalf of tlie bishops and clergy at the graveside honour paid to the late Archbishop Redwood b.v Bishop Brodie.

The bishop said that while it was unusual to speak at thd graveside, as senior suffragan bishop, on behalf of the bishops, clergy and Catholics of New Zealand, he wished to express their gratitude to Archbishop O'Shea for the very beautiful tribute he had paid so feelingly and comprehensively to his predecessor, Archbishop Redwood.

Speaking for the bishops, he said that there was not one of them nho had not been either led to his consecration or consecrated by Archbishop Redwood. He might say also that the majority of priests present had received their ordination at his hands and his example was a very great one. He hoped that Archbishop Redwood's good works would live in the lives of those whom hti had influenced for good. He wished on this occasion to offer to the new Archbishop of Wellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand the devoted, loyal and affectionate regard of the bishops. They promised to help him carry on his very onerous and very noble task, to which it had pleased Almighty God to call him. He wished him, on behalf of the bishops and clergy of the ecclesiastical province of New Zealand, long years as Archbishop, and prayed that the blessings of God would abundantly shower down upon him to makd fruitful his reign.

HONOUR OF SERVING

TRIBUTE PAID BY MAORIS

[by telegraph—ojvn correspondent! ROTORUA, Wednesday

The following tribute to the late Archbishop Redwood was contained in an address presented to Cardinal MacRory, Primate of All Ireland, at the Maori welcome extended to him at Ohinemutu this evening:—

"Your visit synchronises with the passing of Archbishop Redwood. With you, his Church, his see and his charge, we mourn his loss. Rich in the years which the fullness of time has blessed, his days richer still in the enjoyment of the right, privilege and honour of serving, he passes. Full of the love, affection and esteem of his fellow men, he rests in that place which the world cannot give, honoured as a shepherd, loved as a prelate, and admired as a Christian gentleman."
