PHAR LAP'S FAMILY

ENGLISH INQUIRY FOR DAM

FILLY TE UIRA SHIPPED

[by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] CHRISTCIIUiRCH, Friday

Mr. Fred Armstrong, owner of Pliar Lap's clam Entreaty, recently received a letter from England suggesting that if he were willing to breed from Entreaty to Night Raid to English time, the writers would be prepared to purchase the progeny at a price to ho fixed. Mr. Armstrong replied that he would carry out the request but on condition that the English buyers paid him the price he now fixed for a living foal, irrespective of its condition or conformation. A reply has been received from England this week that Mr. Armstrong's proposal has been rejected, probably owing to the large sum mentioned. To breed to English lime tho mating would have to take place in February and as u certain amount of doubt and risk would bo involved regarding the bucci-bs of the mutiner Mr. Armstrong considered that lie was justified in asking a good figure. To Uira, tho two-year-old sister to Phnr Lap, sold recently by Mr- Armstrong is being shipped to England from Lyttelton by the Mataroa to-day. She lias grown into a handsome filly, who will do credit, on appearances, to her native land. Te Uira is making the trip under the care of Mr. A. J. Martin, son of Mr. H. IE, Martin, veterinary surgeon. PLANS FOR BLUE MOUNTAIN TO RACE AT HUTT PARK . When the Addington trainer L. A. Maidens returned to Chrislchurch by aeroplane last Monday Blue Mountain was temporarily placed under the caro of S. M. August, who will keep him going in view of engagements at Wellington. Blue Mountain did not have the best of luck in his races at Kpsom, but put up a very solid effort 111 the Royal Trotting Cup, finishing a close third in 4.18 4-5 and recording the same figures into fourth placo in the President's Handicap, after losing a good deal of ground at tho start. In the Champion Handicap he alßo spoilt Jjis chance by becoming unbalanced at the start, but after settling down, he paced a solid race. As the Hutt Park course is tho same way round as Addington. and he has previously won on it, .he may do better next Saturday.
