Mr. and Mrs. 0. C. Munro, View Road, Waiuku, left on Tuesday on a motor tour to New Plymouth, Wanganui and National Park. They expect to bo back about January 10.

Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Blakeley, Hataitai, Wellington, and their little daughter, Judith, who have been the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. Blakeley, of 5 Fairview Road, Mount Eden, for the Christmas and New Year holidays, will leave on their return to Wellington today.

The Christmas and New Year holidays were fittingly celebrated at Hinemoa House, Helensville. On Boxing Day one of the most amusing of the attractions was a cricket match, ladies v. gentlemen, the latter having to play a lefthanded game. The result was a draw. The captain for the ladies' team was Mrs. Lacy and Captain Lacy was captain for the men. On New Year's Eve Mrs. Keane gave a plain and fancy dress ball, at which guests from the other houses were also present. A presentation was made to Mrs. Keane from the guests at Hinemoa House during the evening. The celebrations were brought t6 a close with a swimming carnival, which was held in the Hinemoa swimming bath. This proved to be a great success.

An interesting visitor to Melbourne at the present time is Mrs. James Storrow, of Massachusetts, United States of America, chairman of the World Committee of the Girl Guide Association* Mrs. Storrow has shown her great interest in the movement by giving to the association a chalet in Switzerland to serve as international headquarters. It is closed duri:ng the autumn and spring for a period, but the international training camps are invariably held there, and between times it is full to overflowing with guides and guiders from various countries, enjoying this opportunity to learn to know each other in the most beautiful surroundings imaginable. The chalet will accommodate as many as 50 people at once, and can even at a pinch, provide for 60.

Miss Jean Stewart, whose marriage to Lord Hewa.rt, Lord Chief Justice, was announced in the cable news from England this week, was born at Wanganui and educated at the Wanganui Girls' College. She is a daughter of the late Mr. James Reid Stewart and Mrs. Stewart, of 74 Wicksteed Street, and is a grand-daughter of the late Mr. David Peat. Both the Stewarts and the Peats are well-known Wanganui families. Miss Stewart trained for the nursing profession at Christchurch, but returned and lived with her parents until eight years ago, when she went to England to take up private nursirg. She followed that occupation for some time, and later conducted a business in London dealing with surgical appliances. Then, until recently, she was matron at the Elstree School, Elstree, Herts. She is a cousin of Sir William Barclay Peat, who is a neighbour of Lord Hewart.
