PACIFIC DEFENCES

NAVY AND AIR ARM 1

UNITED STATES PLANS

INCREASED FORTIFICATION

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright,

NEW YORK. Dec. 24

The Washington correspondent of the Associated Press states that increased American fortification in the Pacific is certain, to develop with the Japanese abandonment of the Washington naval treaty. A naval base is being discussed and there is a definite plan for a great aeroplane base, probably at Fairbanks, Alaska, as a natural result of this year's extensive tour of United States machines across Canada into Alaska.

This development revives the proposal for the construction of a modern highway from Seattle to Vancouver, Prince George, Hazelton, Whitehorse, Fairbanks and westward.

One of the Alaskan delegates to Congress will' introduce legislation for the establishment of an air and military post for a hundred aeroplanes, at Fairbanks, and for a naval base at Anchorage Town, duplicating Pearl Harbour, Honolulu.
