AUCKLAND TO WHAKATANE [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] „ WHAKATANE, Saturday In an attempt to establish a, time record for cycling between Auckland and Wnakataine, a local rider, D. S. Aberhart, a nienibar of the Wliakatane Cycle Club, left tlie chief post office, Auckland, last evening at 10 p.m. and arrired at Whakatane at 12.51 pm. to-day, covering the distance of 210 miles in the actual travelling time of 14 hours IS minutes. Checkings were made at Paeroa at 3.30 a.m., Waihi, 4.45 a.m., Jvatikati, € a.m., Tauranga, 8.5 a.ai., Te • p " k '®r 9.27 a.m.. and Matamata. 11.43 a.m. Aberhart finished very fatigued, but after a short rest was able to go home for some much-needed sleep. He stated that from Pokeno head winds "were experienced and that for uu rniiei of the journey he had to ride through heavy rain. His achievement is considered very creditable in view of the conditions obtaining during tho ride.
