HIGH SCHOOL BREAK-UP
There was a record attendance of parents at the Hamilton High School prize-giving ceremony on Thursday morning. The weather was delightful, and the bowls of beautiful summer flowers which graced various points of the picturesque assembly hall gave an attractive note to the proceedings. The pupils entertained their parents with a programme of concerted items, being accompanied by Mr. E. H. Apthorpe, their musical instructor, at the piano. The principal of the school, Mr. Eben Wilson, and Mrs. Wilson received the guests, Mrs. Wilson wearing a frock of rose pink linen with black coat and hat. Professor W. A. Sewell, of Auckland, was the principal speaker, and he and Mr. A. E. Manning presented the prizes. Among those present were:—Mrs. A. E. Manning, Mrs. A. M. Bisley, MrsMacDiarmid, Mrs. R. Fow, Mrs. P. A large number of the parents and friends of pupils of the Waikato Diocesan School attended the closing ceremony of the school's activities for the year on Wednesday. The prizes were presented to the girls by Mrs. D. Hay, of Auckland. Tea was served by the girls of the school. Miss; A. E. Satchell, the headmistress, received the guests wearing a frock of red and white spotted crinkle crepe with a white straw hat. Among those present were: Mrs. Roscoe-Smith (Taumarunui), Mrs. Mizen (Mercury Island), Mrs. Boak (Tauranga), Mrs. Paize (Waihi), Mrs. Bary (Whatawhata), Mrs. Nicholson (Cambridge), Mrs. Simpkins (Cambridge), Mrs. C. W. Turner (Te Aroha), Mrs. Walter Scott (Te Awamutu), Mrs. H. W. Wilson (Waimai). Miss Eva Beeche entertained several friends at an enjoyable gift party at her home recently in honour of Miss Yvonne Couper, who is to be married shortly. The guest of honour was the recipient of many useful articles for hei future home. Miss Beeche received her guests wearing a frock of floral georgette. She was assisted by her sisteir, Miss Clarice Beeche, who was wealing floral taffeta. The guest of honour wore rose crinkle crepe, and Mrs. Beeche floral taffeta. Among those present were: —Mrs. G'. Couper, Mrs. A. Fow, Mrs. H. Absolum, Mrs. A. Fahey, Mrs. G. Anchor, -Miai Pat Tombs, Miss Ellen Tombs, Mlsis Phyllis Anch'or, Miss Mavis MoGuinness, Miss Delia Clapham, Miss Audrey Andrews, Miss Joyce Evitt, Miss Isobei Scobie, Miss Dorothy Boyes, Miss Free (Christchurch). Mrs. D. Hay, Auckland, is staying with Mrs. T." C. .Eraser,/ Mrs. 0. R. Farner is visiting Auckland. Mrs. Parke Pittar, Whangarei, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Ray Frazer. .Mrs. R. 8.. Cranwell has returned from a holiday in Australia. Mrs. A. M. Bisley has returned from a visit to Wellington, where she attended the bi-annual conference of the Dominion Plunket Society. Mrs. C. B. Plummer, Auckland, has returned to her home after staying with her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Hammond. t Miss R- J. Whyte, Palmerston North, who has just returned from a trip to England, is the guest of Mrs. A. B. Whyte,. Miss Mary Speight was the guest of ]Hrs. R. Lightbourne, of Huntly, for a few days. - Mrs. R. J. Bull, of Napier, is visiting her mother, Mrs. E. F. Peacocke.
