VAN DRIVER KILLED
VEHICLE FALLS 100 FEET LONG WAIT FOR RESCUE _ [BV TELEGBAPH —rBESS association] WANGANUI. Thursday Fatal injuries were suffered by Mr. J. H. Manley, farmer, of Westmere, until recently secretary of the Wanga* nui Y.M.C.A., on a journey from Wanganui to Rnetihi to-day. He was driving a light delivery van and, in a tempting to pass a lorry about thirtytwo miles from Wanganui, the van e the road and careered down a steep bank for about a hundred feet. The lorry driver, Mr. J. Mitchel , 0 Wanganui, could do nothing to assis Mr. Manley until the arrival of ropes and breakdown appliances about two hours later. After an arduous task, Mr. Manley was brought to the roa by means of a woolpack and ropes, u • he was in- a very serious condition ana died, en route to hospital. He a suffered severe internal injuries. A r * Manley is survived by his widow an five young children.
