TOWN AND COUNTRY MATCH ANNUAL CONTEST TO-MORROW KEEN INTEREST IN GAME The annual Town and Country match will be commenced at. Eden Park No v 1 ground this morning and be continued to-morrow. The game is expected to create considerable interest triving to the selection of the Auckland team, which will defend the Plunket Shield this season. Several players who are taking part in the match to-day are bordering on representative honours, and for this reason wijl be arpcioils to make good. Last year tho match brought to the fore R. H. Cleave, then of Thames, who is Puiyinjp* for the Town side to-day. In the " own team on that occasion the colt M. Wallace gained a place in the representative eleven later on account of his fine innings. Added interest will bo given to tho match owing to the player-coach, L. F. Townsend, taking part, and lie will play for the Country team. Play will commence each day at 10.30 o'clock. The teams are as follows: Town.—P. E. Whitelaw (captain), F. Goodsir (Parnell), V. S. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FIFTH SERIES OF MATCHES The fifth series of matches in the senior championship of the Auckland Cricket Association will he concluded to-morrow. Some of the teams will be weakened owing to players taking part in the Town and Country match and, therefore, may find difficulty in avpiding six-point defeats. University, which met Ponsonby on the No. 1 wicket at Eden P ar « last Saturday, is in a strong position. Ponsonby scored SG and four for no wickets, and "University 159. Ponsonby will be without Townsend and Cleave, so University's Prospects for an outright win appear bright. Ih is match will be concluded to-morrow on the Auckland Grammar School ground, Mountain Road. ■ _, In the match on No. 2 ground at Eden Park Parnell should have little difficulty in passing Eden's total. Eden scored 191 on the first day and Parnell 71 for one wicket. On the No. 3 wicket Y.M.C.A. will face a good total of 283 made by King's Old Boys on tho first day. North Shore will be considerably weakened to-morrow, as fonr of its players will be taking part in the Town and Country match Grafton scored 275 last Saturday and the local team replied with 71 for three wickets, which will now be four wickets, as Curtayne, 35 not out, will be at Eden Park. JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVES The following players have been (selected to attend practice at Victoria Park next Tuesday with a view to the final selection of the team to represent Auckland in the Brabin Cup match against "Wellington:— Cottrall (Sacred Heart), L. _ Archer. SUBURBAN MATCHES The Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association will conclude, the third series of matches, commenced a fortnight ago, at the Domain to-morrow afternoon. In- the meantime the Domain has been need for hletic sports and a previous postponement was caused by the holding of' a. carnival for the coach fund. Batting first. Palmerston North scored 211 (Pollett 42. Kearsey 39. Spelman 39). Johnson took five wickets for_ 61 runs and Morrissey three for 52. Napier at stumps was nil out for the small total of 92 (Mornssey 30. Bickerstaff 24). Loudon look fivi wickets for 19 runs and Stewart three for 55.
