The last meeting of the year of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union of Whangarei was attended by a large number of members and friends. Mrs. W. Elliott, president, presided, and airs. J. A. Inkster gave a reading from Mabol Shaw's "God's Candlelights." Miss Shaw was one of the first two missionaries sent out to Übereshf, in Northern Rhodesia, from the London Missionary Society and for many years she taught in the mission school. luterspersed with tho readings wero Christmas carols, and Mesdames E. V. Fry, I. H. Brown and J. Fyfe rendered items. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames E. A. Bates and J. N. MeCarroll. The Otaika Basketball Club finalised this season's activities with its annual ball, which was held in the Otaika Public Hall. Several competition dances were held and Avon by Miss E. Gordon and Mr. P. Cook, Miss 0.. Litt and Mr. A. Thorburn, Miss E. Wright and Mr. K. Tito. Included among those present were: —Mrs. J. Lord, Mrs. J. M. Steedman, Mrs. C. B. Cuff, Mrs. W.
