TELEPHONE SERVICE

AUCKLAND AND HAMILTON TEMPORARY BREAKDOWN The telephone service between Auckland and Hamilton was interrupted for over three hours last night as a result of the sudden snapping of a telegraphpole at Whangamarino, between Pokeno and Rangiriri, at about seven o'clock. Five circuits were affected and only a limited service was available until 10.30 p.m., when ordinary conditions prevailed after temporary repairs had been made. An inspection by linesmen showed that the pole had snapped off short near the ground. There was no apparent reason for the breakage, and nothing to indicate that a vehicle had struck the pole.
