MANUREWA NEWS
On the eve of their departure for England, Mr. and Mrs. Macdonald and family were entertained by the parishioners of St. Luke's Church, at a social last evening. The vicar, the Rev. A. J. Carr, and his predecessor, the Rev. F. B. Dobson, spoke on the valuable services rendered by the guests of honour in connection with church affairs. On behalf of the parishioners,. Mr. F. Barnard (vicar's warden), presented Mr. Duncan Macdonald (who has acted as peoples' warden and treasurer for some years), with a travelling rug, suit case and dressing case. The ladies auxiliary represented by Mesdames A. J. Carr, Lupton, sen. and Pearson, presented Mrs. Macdonald with a handbag, and Miss Mary Macdonald with a crystal powder bowl. During the evening, five boys from the Manurewa Children's Home entertained the gathering with an excellent display on hand bells. A short musical programme was contributed by Mrs. W. Davies, Miss Johansen, Rev. A. J. Carr, Dr. Jenkins, Messrs. Ayling and Evans. The members of the Mothers' JJnion took the opportunity of presenting their secretary, Mrs. H. P. L. Wliitton, with a handbag as a Christmas gift.
