PARKING OFFENCES

"EDUCATING THE MOTORIST" PROSECUTION COMPLAINT " 1 have always understood that the 'tagging' of cars for parking offences was designed principally to educate motorists concerning the parking regulations," said the president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), Mr. A. Grayson, at a meeting of the council of the association last night. An instance was mentioned of a first offender whose car had been "tagged'' for a parking breach and who had interviewed an official at the traffic department of the City Council. The motorist had gained the impression that the explanation given was satisfactory and that the matter would be dropped, but he received a summons to appear in the Police Court. " 1 know the parking problem in the city is a very difficult one and it has been handled discreetly in the past," added Mr. Grayson. " However, if a motorist, after being given an assurance that there will be no prosecution, receives a summons, it is most unsatisfactory." It was decided to approach the traffic department with a view to having the"position remedied.
