FARMERS' VIEWS ON EMBARGO [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] GISBORNE, Saturday The Poverty Bay branch of tho Farmers' Union to-day decided to urge that a referendum of farmers should be taken before tho lifting of the embargo on the importation of livestock was considered by the Government. The president, Mr. J. E. Zenson, supporting the motion, said that tho Prime Minister had given an assurance that a referendum of farmers would be taken before any move was taken. The president believed that fully 90 per cent of farmers woidd vote against the removal of the embargo. It appeared as though the Government was trying to force the removal of the embargo.
