MEMORIAL CHURCH
ERECTION AT KAWHIA MARKING A CENTENARY [FHOM OCR owx correspondent] KAWHIA, Sunday To mark the centenary of the arrival in Kawhia, on November 22, 1834, of the Rev. W. Woon, who founded a Methodist mission, a memorial church is to be built in Kawhia. The founda-tion-stone will be laid on November 22. In addition to the church, which will be of ferro-concrete, a parsonage will also be erected. The foundation-stone will be laid by the Maori "King," Koroki, and a large attendance of Europeans and Maoris is expected. In addition to the "king," a notable Waikato chief, Tarapipipi Taingakawa, grandson of Tami Hana te Waharoa, is expected, and Princess Te Puea has signified her intention of being present. The present missioner in Kawhia is the Rev. M. Tauroa, a member of the native race.
