LEAVING TIME ADVANCED

TAKE-OFF BEFORE DAWN ' I KINGSFORD SMITH'S PLANS (Received October 21, 5.5 p.m.) ERISBANE. Oct. 21 Owing to reports that he was likely to encounter head winds all the way to Suva Sir Charles Kingsford Smith left at 4 a.m. instead of 6 a.m. as he had originally intended. In spite of the darkness the aeroplane made a successful take-off. There was a surprisingly large crowd to witness the departure considering the early hour. Sir Charles wished to reach Suva by daylight as the Albert Park Aerodrome there is a very restricted ground. He expected the stage of 1760 miles to occupy 10 to 12 hours. " I don't know when I shall bo coming back," said Sir Charles before leaving, " but I will not be flying. I am flying the machine over to make tho best possible deal with it that I can to pay my backers."
