SERVICE CAR OVERTURNS
SCHOOLTEACHER INJURED ACCIDENT NEAR WHANGAREI [from our own correspondent] WHAXGAREI, Sunday An eightseater passenger service car, owned by the Northern Motor Bus Company, Limited, of Whangarei, and driven by Mr. S. Partridge, of Russell, which was this week purchased by the company, and which was on its maiden trip, met with disaster at about 9.30 a.m. yesterday. The car was proceeding from Russell to Whangarei, and when comifig down the incline opposite the Helena Bay post office, the steering gear failed to act, the vehicle overturning and crashing down a 30ft. bank. The car contained three adult passengers and a young child. Only one passenger, Mrs. Elizabeth Jones, head teacher of the Whangaruru native school, was injured. She was pinned under the vehicle, and was later taken to the Whangarei Hospital in a St. John ambulau.ee suffering from extensive scalp wounds and concussion. Her condition is serious. The vehicle was not greatly damaged.
