RUNNING DESCRIBED

DEFEAT OF RED MANFRED MIGHT'S DECISIVE WIN KORERO BEATS WEST TOR [by telegraph OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Saturday ( hile won the hurdle race at Trentlnuu to-day very comfortably and the fact that Revision ran off at the last fence did not affect the result, as Chile then had the issue well in hand. Although a failure on the flat, he is well bred, being a brother to the Derby dinner, Agrion, and the recent A.J.C. Metropolitan winner, Waikare. However, he won a hurdle race at the Grand National meeting and has since improved. Revision would have been second had she not run off, but Illuminate, who made the pace, was tired and just held on from Pabu, who had made up ground, but never looked dangerousA small field contested the Taita Handicap, which was won in solid fashion by Mr. T. H. Lowry's colt Haut Monde. He was always in front and just held on in a hard .finish from the Southern filly Hororata. Hororata may ha-ve been a bit unlucky on the day, as she'was giving the winner four or five lengths' start entering the course proper. However. Haut Monde is likely to improve more. They outclassed the others. Might scored a very solid win in the Waimi! Handicap. He 1 was in the rear for the first half, but once he made his run he ovei hauled the leaders to win going away. It was a fine effort and Might is a greatly improved horse. Mother Superior ran her best race to date for. the eeason. Vintage, who started favourite, ran a good race and should improve. Princess Doreen and Sporting Blood both failed to stay the distance, but the latter should improve, as also should • Aga Khan. Cricket Bat ran a very good race for a fresh horse. Won in Last Stride Grand Sport, who looks in splendid condition, got up in the last stride to head the light-weight Flammarion in the Rimutakn. Hack Handicap, after Flammarion had tried to win all the way. Flammarion was bracketed with Flamingo, who was never in the hunt. Hunting Lodge and Pladie were always liandy and hrjd every chance. Tho favourite, Dombey, was disappointing. Dawn Princess, who is only a maiden, ran an excellent race and looked dangerous at the last furlong post. Spiral revealed his fine form to win decisively in the Wellington Handicap from the favourite, Red Manfred, and the wellbacked Davolo. Spiral was always well placed, travelling smoothly behind the paceimaker Lady Ronald, and got a perfect run. Davolo and Red Manfred, who were alVays running handily, challenged Spiral in the straight, but while they ran. on solidly he fought them off courageously. -Walton Park. Hazoor, Catalogue, Lady Ronald and Polydora did best of tho others. Polydora | was in the rear for mqst of the running. She finished on well. Spiral was in the New Zealand Cup, but dropped out at the last acceptance yesterday. On his day he is a good horse, and this was one of them. Legatee finished up favourite over Severe for the Wellesley Stakes, for which there was a very disappointing field of only four. The public were on the wrong way, but they were unlucky, as Legatee appeared to receive a bump at the false rail. When he recovered he put. in a great run, but although he was fast overhauling Severe, it was too late. Penelope weakened after showing brilliant dash to the false rail. Copyist's Fine Eflort Copyist produced a win for the South in the Shorts Handicap. He was always in front with Pin Money and. running on well in the straight, fought oS a strong challenge by Palermo. Cawbcen and Pin Money held their early places to run next, with a bunch handy. Autopay got off"well and had every chance, but Copyist put up a emart performance and proved too good at the weights. Korero put in an appearance on the rail 3 in the straight in the concluding event and ecored very comfortably from West Tor, who had looked likely at the false rail. West Tor was always prominent, but Korero came from a fair way back. Dorado was always in the picture; but the fourth horse, Davistock, came - from the very last at Vlie five furlongs' post. He looked unlucky. Cyclonic had every chance. Cherry King, who was fairly handy in the middle stages, was actually the last horse past the post, though this is not his right form. lop Coat's name wa3 being hailed at the seven furlongs' post, where he forged- up. but he did not run the distance right out.
