TROTTING AT EPSOM

■; F. J. SMITH'S WINNERS WRECKER and worthy light DECREASE IN INVESTMENTS The successful trainer-driver F. J. Smith was responsible for the two principal winners at the opening of the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting at Alexandra Park, Epsom, on Saturday, when he won the Jellicoe Handicap with Wrecker and the Electric Handicap with Worthy Light, the only favourite of the day to score. Smith was also second with Ganton and Wee Machine, and third with War Girl. Ganton was extremely unlucky not to win, being seriously interfered" with at the start by another horse, while Wee Machine may have won also only for breaking badly early and losing a lot of ground. E. S. Groat also had two winners, scoring in successive races with Realty and Manna's Son. / The conditions for racing were unpleasant, the weather being cold and showery, and the going dead. The attendance was estimated at about 7000. The totalisator handled £16,081, compared with £18,633 15s, a decrease of £2-552 15s. j. i Results:— WAITEMATA HANDICAP, \ Of £130: trotters; limit 3.48; li miles i—I —ML'TE, J. H.
