MR. C. N. COTTERILL FORMER BANK MANAGER [BY TELEGRAPH —FRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Charles N. Cotterill, formerly manager of the Bank of New South Wales,, Christchurch. He joined the service of the bank at Napier in 1882 and later he was stationed at several branches. He was manager first at Foilding, and then at Timaru and Napier, and in 1923 ho was appointed manager in Christchurch. He retired in 1930. LATE MR. G. H. MASON [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON, Sunday A tribute to the memory of Mr. George H. Mason, former president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, whose death occurred last week, was paid by the presence of leading Rugby Union administrators at the funeral at Karori yesterday. Among those present wero Mr. Edgar Wylio, representing the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr. Frank Glasgow, representing tho Canterbury Rugby Union, Messrs. E. Little, J. Prendoville and A. Wiren, representing tho Wellington Rugby Union, and a number of well-known players. Wreaths were sent by the New Zealand Union and leading provincial unions. MR. W. NEWELL [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Sunday The death occurred at Tamahere today of Mr. William Newell at the age of 71 years. Mr. Newell was born in County Down, Ireland, and came to New Zealand as a young man. He was employed 011 tho Woodlands Estate at Gordonton, and later purchased land at Tamahere, where 110 was farming until his death. Mr. Newell was keenly interested in public affairs and served for many years on the Waikato County Council, being chairman at the time of his death. He was particularly interested in fat sheep and cattle and was a well-known judge and exhibitor of these classes of stock. Mr. Newell was one of tho strongest supporters of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Ho was 011 the executive for many years and was a past president, lie is survived by his wife and five daughters, Mrs. G. Powell, Mrs. A. G. Boyd, Mrs. M. C. Hodgson and Misses E. and V. Newell. MR. WILLIAM BOYD [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Sunday The death occurred in Hamilton yesterday of Mr. William Boyd, of Matangi, at the age of 50 years. Mr. Boyd was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, and came to New Zealand 22 years ago. On his arrival he took up some land at Matangi and soon made the area one of the model dairy farms of the district. A visit to Mr. Boyd's farm was included in practically every tour of the Waikato. Mr. Boyd was prominently associated with the Farmers' Union and was a member of the Auckland executive and of the Waikato subprovincial executive. He took a keen interest in politics and was a supporter of the Country Party. Mrs. Boyd died two years ago. He is survived by two children. » MR. J. 0. HYMERS [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCARGILL, Saturday The death has occurred at Riverton of Mr. James Oliver Hymers, who | was well known in racing circles. He took a prominent part in the affairs ; of tho town, being a member of the | Borough Council and, for a long period, chairman of the Works Committee of the council. He was 79 years of age.

SISTER M. L. BILTON The death occurred in a private hospital in Auckland yesterday of Sister Margaret L. Bilton, of Canterbury, at the ago of 65 years. Sister Bilton was the third daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Bilton, of Timaru, and was born in Christchurch. She was trained at the Napier Hospital and was the first district nurse appointed in New Zealand under the present district nursing scheme. She was sta.tioned first at Frity, in the Taranaki district, and later at Waiuta, on the West Coast of the South Island. During the war Sister Bilton was attached to the Imperial forces and served in hospitals in Egypt, Malta and England. In addition, she served for some time on the hospital ship Dover Castle. In recent years Sister Bilton had led a retired.life in Christchurch, spending the winters in Auckland. She had been here two months when her death occurred. Mr. G. Bilton, of Pio Pio. is a brother.
