ALLEGED GAMING HOUSES FIFTEEN EUROPEANS FINED CHINESE REMANDED ON BAIL As a result of raids made by detectives on three premises in the city, two in Grey's Avenue and one in Pitt Street, early on Friday night, 21 Chinese and Europeans were charged with various breaches of the Gaming Act, before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in the Police Court on Saturday. Ah Louie, aged 40, laundryman (Mr. Dyson), Wong Yin. aged 71, miner and laundryman (Mr. Tong) and Lin Ming, aged 63 (Mr. Dyson), were charged, with being the occupiers of promises situated at 92 Grey's Avenue, 40 Pitt Street, and 65 Grey's Avenue, respectively, they did use tho premises as common gaming houses. A fourth Chinese, Chong Jack Kow, aged 45. laundryman (Mr. Tong), was charged with assisting in tho management of an alleged common gaming house at 40 Pitt Street. On the application of counsel, the four accused were remanded until Friday. Bail was fixed at £SO in each case. Four Europeans who pleaded guilty to being, at 92 Grey's Avenue, without lawful excuse, were each fined £2, and 10s costs. A plea of guilty was also entered by six Europeans to the charge of being found without lawful excuse at 65 Grey's Avenue and they were fined a. similar amount. The seventh accused found at 65 Grey's Avenue pleaded not guilty. Tho magistrate accepted his explanation that he had only just called at the house to deliver two pigeons when the detectives arrived, and dismissed tho charge Jigainst him. Pleading guilty to being found without lawful excuse at 40 Pitt Street, five Europeans were fined £2, and 10s costs. Tho sixth person found by the detectives was a youth, who said ho had visited the place with his father ana did not know it was an alleged common gaming house. Accused was given, an opportunity of changing his plea to one of not guilty, but failed to do so and was fined £l, and 10s costs.
