FIRE ON STEAMER
CONFINED TO ONE HOLD EXTINGUISHED IN LONDON British Wireless RUGBY. Oct. 18 For the past three days the Italian steamer Leopardi has been steaming at top speed for London with fire smouldering in one of her holds. The outbreak was discovered when the vessel was approaching the Bay of Biscay, and the master, Captain Sperber, ordered the hold to be battened down. Steam was forced into the hold to obviate the risk of the outbreak bursting into feme. Captain Sperber sent a wireless message to London asking that a fire brigade should be in attendance. When (the ship berthed at Bermondsev early this morning, firemen ijnmcdiately boarded the \essel, and were engaged for nearly four hours before the outbreak was finally got under control.
