WHEAT SITUATION
OPTIMISTIC VIEW SURPLUS DISAPPEARING (Received October 19. 8.5 p.m.) WINNIPEG. Oct. IS Mr. John I. McFarland, general manager of the Central Selling Agency of the Canadian wheat pools, informed a private gathering of delegates to the annual Manitoba wheat pool he expected to retire in about a year. Taking an optimistic view of world marketing problems Mr. McFarland said his task would be over in a year. The wheal; surplus was fast disappearing and the glut on the market was being eliminated in spite of Argentina's operations.
Mr. McFarland has bec*n in charge of the Government's stabilisation operations on the Winnipeg Grain Exchange.
