HAWERA TRACK WORK CANDIDATES FOR WAVERLEY [from Ol"R OWN correspondent] HAWERA, Thursday This morning's work at Hawera by horses engaged at Waverley attracted a gool deal of attention. The course proper was used for fast work and the going was very holding. The Tiger and Kaola were sent six furlongs. The Tiger again going nicely to finish in front in 1.24}. Colossal went at' half pace to the tvrofurlongs post and sprinted home in 25Js. Harvest Moon was not going impressively at the end of four furlongs in 5515. The hurdler Beau Star shaped well in the. going and covered fivo furlongs in I.lo}. Friesland was four lengths ahead of Silver Wings at the end of five furlongs in 1.10. Silver Wings led for tho first furlong, but the two were together at the two furlongs in 20 l-ss, Friesland drawing away in the run lmnie. Silver Wings has not galloped well since knocking herself last week and will have to improve to have a chance at Waverley. Richfield and Autumn Leaf covered five furlongs in 1.10, Richfield being a neck in front at the finish. The first attempt at a schooling bout between Sandlark and Benedictine was nullified by Sandlark's bridle becoming loose at tho first hurdle, where his rider made a clever recovery. They afterwards gave a good display over four fences. Sandlark jumping the better and finishing just in front. Riding engagements for Waverley in-clue:-—R. Feasey Green Linnet; R. Cotter, Sandlark. Colossal; W. Grindlay. Beau Star, Silver Wings; E. Coyle. Friesland; J. Fearn, Richfield, Ruaform; H. Goldfinch, Adept. Autumn Leaf. Lull a Quex: W. E. Pine. Bay Sand. NOTES FROM EVERYWHERE TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP The English-bred mare White Bird, owned by Mr. M 11. Tims, of Te Awamutu. has foaled a colt to General Latour. Kiltowyn caiuo through his two races at the recent spring meeting in good style and he is being kept in regular work for meetings ahead. Although defeated in his latest outings, Kiltowyn did well enough to indicate, that, he may not be long in returning to Ilia best form. As the result of a knock, the two-year-old Trevace was relieved of his engagements at tiie spring meeting at Ellerslio and l.e has been enjoying a short let-up. Trevace is one of tho most promising juveniles at Ellerslio and Mr. C. M. Emanuel hopes to have him in regular work again very shortly. The two-year-old Tai Yang, by Paladin from Black-Eyed Sue, who has been resting for sonio weeks, has been taken m hanci again by Mr. A. D. Potter. Tai "i ang displayed speed in a couple of short sprints when in worl previously and, as he has done well during his holiday, his progress# during the next few months will bo watched with interest. The five-year-old mare Roman Mascot, by Lucullus from Fabriquctte, has completed a spell and is again attending the tracks at Ellerslie, where she will bb trained by her owner and breeder N. Cunningham. Roman Mascot raced very consistently last season, earning £473 in stakes, and she is useful when in form, After his disappointing efforts at the spring meeting, it has been decided to give Catoma a spell and ho is unlikely to race again foi some time. Although lie worked well before 'ho meeting, Catoma failed to show any dash in his recent outings and his efforts in public since his fall in the | Great. Northern Hurdles have been very; moderate. The Chokebote st able lias a very prom is J ing apprentice rider, A. C- Messervv. a . relative of A. Messervy. He is only a little ! ever sst., but is strong for his size and has lately shown ability in fast work not only for his own stable, but also for several other trainers Messervy is to have his first experience of raoe-ridins at Rangiora on Monday
