RACES AT TRENTHAM

PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY

-j THE WELLINGTON ..HANDICAP REVIEW OF THE FIELDS [BY TKLEGRArH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON, Friday The very heavy rain this morning has softened the Trentham track for the opening of the Wellington Racing Club's meeting to-morrow. The two-year-old races have dwindled down, and there .'Will now be no place betting in the Taita Handicap, while Galilee's absence from the Wellesley Stakes is very disappointing. The weather *pfospects for to-morrow are better, and it will not take much drying to improve the going, which at the worst will be soft and slow, unless there is further rain to make it really heavy. The win and place system of betting trill be in operation. Details of the fields:— 12.17—GLEN HURDLES, Of £200; 1| miles D , at. lb. B t. lb. Pahu..... 11 0 Chile .... 9 5 Illuminate . . 911 Diamond ... 9 0 Revision ... 9 9 Vitaphone .."90 Verden .98 jhe scratching of Royal Lineage leaves moderate form represented. Verden is another improbable starter, and his rider, F. Thompson, has secured the mount on j \itaphone. The form horses are Revision, j Pahu and Illuminate, but Chile is very well ! and an improver. The favourites may bo I REVISION. ' CHILE, ILLUMINATE. 12.57—TAITA HANDICAP, Of £160; for two-year-olds; 6 fur. st. lb. st. lb. Romp Along . 8 0 Round Up . . 7 12 Going Gay ..80 Hororata ... 7 6 Haut Monde. 8 0 Ihe candidates are mostly inexperienced. \ The most promising appears to be Mr. T. I H. Lowry's colt Haut Monde, who is out j of D'Oro. He is a good-looking chestnut ; and in his only race at Napier, which was I won by his etable mate Kotou, ha showed j a lot of promise. He has improved a lot and should bo hard to beat. Mr. A, Byrnes' pafir, Rompalong and Round Up. have raced, but their form is moderate. Hororata did not get a track to suit at Dunedin and might improve. The best supported may bo HAUT MONDE, HORORATA. I.42—WAINUI HANDICAP, Of £200; 1 mile st. lb. at. lb. Cricket Bat . 9 6 Cyclonic ..80 Aga Khan . . 8 12 Aiguille . . . 7 10 Vintage . . . 8 12 Mother True Shaft . . 8 11 Superior ..79 Prin. Doreen . 8 7 Nightguard ..77 Might . . . S 5 Semper Pomp .... 8 4 Paratus ..77 Sporting Blood 8 3 The race bears an open aspect. The most likely on recent form appears to be Might, Vintage, Princess Doreen, Aga Khan and Sporting Blood. Princess Doreen is back at a distance that will «uit her better than the longer ones she has- been attempting. Popular fancies may be PRINCESS DOREEN. MIGHT. SPORTING BLOOD.

Most money may be carried by DOMBEY. COURTEGA. DIAGANO. 3.I—WELLINGTON HANDICAP, Of £400; 1 mile 3 fur. Bt. lb. st. Ib. Davolo .... 8 10 Arikira ... 7 12 Red Manfred . 8 8 Copper King . 7 7 Brambletorn .84 Some Shamble 7 7 Polydora ... 8 3 Walton Park. 7 6 Gold Trail ..82 Lady Ronald . 7 4 Spiral .... 8 1 Prin. Doreen . 7 3 Haioor . . v. 7 18 .. i 7 3 Catalogue-' . . 712 Silver Sight . 7 0 Auckland running lias' caused Red Manfred ' to. advance in favour and he race? well at. Trentham. Polydora is also in etrong demand, as her form ,at Timarti has created a big impression. Davolo, Gold Trail, Hasior, Some Shamble, Walton Park and Aesc-ulus are' all fancied Brambletorn is coming oni : and may run well. The favourites may be POLYDORA. SPIRAL BRAMBLETORN. 3.42—WELLES LEY STAKES, Of £400; two-year-olds; colts and geldings, 8.7, fillies 8.2; 5 fur. st. lb. (it. lb. Legatee ... 8 7 Penelope ... 8 2 Galilee .... 8 2 ' Nightlass ... 8 2 Severe .... 8 2 Going Gay ..82 The absence of Galilee will rob the race of considerable interest. In her absence the best supported may be SEVERE. LEGATEE, 4.22—SHORTS HANDICAP, Of £300; 6 fur. 4 st. lb. «t. lb. Autopay ... 0 5 Grind Sport . 7 7 Cadland ... 8 5 Slippery ... 7 7 Palermo ... 8 1 Water Power . 7 6 Copyist ... 7 10 Pin Money . 7 2 Good Hunting 7 10 Cawbeen ... 7 0 Autopay may be the favourite for the sprint event, but his chance is always contingent upon his getting away on terms. He has returned from Sydney in the pink of condition and his form over there was quite good. Cadland is now down in the weights and should race well, whilo Palermo, Water Power, Slippery, Cawbten and Grand Sport are all fancied. The best supported are likely to be * : AUTOPAY. CADLAND. SLIPPERY. S.S—OCTOBER HACK HANDICAP, Of £200; 1 mile st. lb. st. lb. Synagogue . !) 9 Dorado .... 7 9 Cvclonic ~90 Eoudoir ...78 Silver Sight . 9 2 Ebeum .... 7 3 West Tor ... 811 Grand Blow . 7 0 Davistock ... 8 9 Leith .... 7 0 Sir Nigel .~R 8 Top Coat ... 7 0 Korero . .81 Purse .... 7 0 Cherry King . 7 13 J.'. R. George may not start Synagogue. He will not race him more than once at the meetii.g, and he is likely finally to decide to give to-morrow's race a miss, as it will be a severe test. Hacks like Cyclonic. Silver Sight, West Tor. Davistock, Sir Nigel. Dorado r.nd Cherry King will make it very hard. Still Synagogue looks a good three-year-old and if he starts should run well. The prime fancies may be CHERRY KING, DAVISTOCK, CYCLONIC.

TRENTHAM SCRATCHINGS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Friday Scratchings posted for the first day of' the Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting are a« follows: Rimutaka Hack Handicap.—Hest, Gay Boy. Tnita Handicap.—Matrimony. Wellesley Stakes.—Matrimony. Additional scratchings for the Wellington meeting at*e:—Beau Gallante, Argument, Ranelagh, Argentic and Red Sun. CHERRY KING IMPRESSES [jlY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON, Friday Training operations at Trentham this week have been singularly uninformntivc, but there was one impressive galloper this morning, and that was Cherry King. He is likely to start in the October Hack Handi cap, in which there is every chance that Synagogue will not run. T. R. George desires to give Synagogue only one race at the meeting, and will probably reserve him until Monday.
