WAIHI GOLDMINING

INTEREST IN COMPANY PAYMENT FOR HORAHORA Apart from the high price of gold and mine developments, two other important factors are combining to quicken interest in Waihi gold mining shares. Recently London buyers have been showing greater activity on the Auckland Stock Exchange and as a result the market at present is showing increased strength. Next month £212,500 is due to the company from the New Zealand Government in payment for the Horahora hydro-electric works taken over by tho Government. This payment originally became due in November, 19131, but in view of tho disturbed financial conditions throughout tho world at that time it was arranged with the Government that the date of payment should be postponed until November, 19.7). Opinion in the city at present tends toward the view that on this occasion the Government will meet its obligation. The fact that the company's tin venture in Siam is nearing the production stage is a further point of interest. Some years ago, as an outlet for some of its capital, and a provision against the time when the present main undertaking should become unprofitable, the company secured an interest in Pukct Tin Dredging, Limited, Siam, in which Tronah Mines, Limited, is also part owner. Up to December, 1983, the Waihi Company had expended £146,206 on the venture, and at • the annual meeting in May last, the chairman, tho late Mr. A. M. Mitchison, who was optimistic of tho success of the undertaking, informed shareholders that the company was looking forward to a commencement of digging within six months.
