ELOPING ON 35s A WEEK
FIFTY YEARS' HAPPINESS Fifty years ago a boy aged eighteen and a girl aged sixteen eloped from their homes in Westminster and were married in Lambeth Church. The couple, Mr. and Mrs. A. Lillington, of Brixton, celebrated their golden wedUing on September 8. The couple made a runaway marriage because they were afraid the girl's parents would not agree. But there was a reconciliation afterwards. " We have had seven children," Mrs. Lillington said. " My husband was earning 35s as a clerk when wo married. "Mr. Lillington was born in Westminster and if he had been married at St. John's Church there he would have been entitled to a gift of £SO under an old bequest. But we were so anxious to marry that we did not risk going to a church so near home," Mrs. Lillington said.
