WEDDING DAY INCIDENT
With a carnation in his buttonhole and confetti clinging to his coat, Willie Chirkson, aged 23, of Leeds, was charged recently with using premises for ! the purpose of readv-money betting. Noticing the confetti and Clarkson's spruce appearance, the magistrate inquired if he had just come from a wedding. "Yes, sir," replied the court superintendent; "he was married two hours ago." The charge having been read to him, the young bridegroom pleaded Most of his clients, it was explained, were women. "His best client for readymoney transactions will now bo his wife," observed the magistrate's elerk. The Court smiled. So did Willie. When a line of 40s wns imposed, however, the smile died away. " Can I have time to pay?" he inquired. " What! Just married and no money?" replied the magistrate. Given a week in which to pay, Willie left the court to continue the interrupted honeymoon.
