EX-M.P. POET HONOURED
RARE HEREFORD CEREMONY s - A ceremony of such an unusual character that only two or three of the kind have taken place during tho past century at Hereford was witnessed in the Town Hall recently, when tho freedom of the city was conferred upon the Chief Steward of Hereford, Sir John Ark wright. Since Lord Nelson was thus honoured in 1802 only a few have had the Freedom conferred upon them, ono of the last being tho Root Laureate, Mr. John Maseficld, who is Herefordshire born. Sir John Arkwright is the composer of " The Supremo Sacrifice," and formerly represented Hereford in Parliament. He has his seat at Kinsham, in the county, and has always been intimately associated with religious, social find cultural movements of the city and county. Tho Freedom was presented in an apple-wood casket similar to that in which Lord Nolson received his.
