CENTENARY FLORINS
FIRST FROM THE MINT GOVERNOR PRESSES A BUTTON » [from our own* correspondent] MELBOURNE, Oct. 10 Pressing a lever on a machine at the Royal Mint yesterday, the Governor of Victoria, Lord Huntingfield. minted the first of the 75,000 centenary florins which are to be issued to the public at 3s each. Immediately after receiving from the Deputy-Master of the Mint, Mr. H. D. McCay, the first coin to leave the machine, the Governor bought eight more. A total of 75,300 troy ounces of silver will be used in minting the coins, which boar on the reverse the Centenary emblem —a youth with a torch riding a horse —and the words: Centenary. Victoria, Melbourne, 1934-35, Florin; and on the obverse the head of the King, the lower part of which extends to tho milled edge, and the words: George V., King and Kmperor. The coins will be distributed through the banks. In the country they will be made available by request. The Centenary Fund will receive Is for each coin issued to the public.
