AVOIDING FLOOD MENACE
RAISING OF HIGHWAY MOVEMENT AT KAITAIA [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] KAITAIA, Friday A meeting of the Kaitaia Chamber of Commerce was held last night. Further correspondence was read regarding the raising of the highways above flood level, the movement for which was started by the chamber and had since been strongly supported by other bodies. It was decided to write to the No. 1 Highway Council and to the county councils interested, pointing out the advisability of concentrating on the No. 1 highway and raising this rohte above the normal flood level before work on secondary highways was undertaken. The Hokianga County Council had promised support to the chamber s representations and had stated that it may be in a position to effect improvements on the Mangamuka section this year, and that the Rangiahua section, which was a rather costly undertaking, would be consolidated when the new bridge there was completed.
