CRITICISM AT DUNEDIN INTENTIONS OF MINISTER [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Friday The decision to reopen the teachers' training centres only at Auckland and Christchurch was condemned yesterday by Mr. J. Wallace, chairman, at a meeting of the Otago Education Board. He said the Minister had been badly advised by his department and had adopted the undemocratic principle of providing training only'for those who could afford it, when their homes were away from the two centres of training. "it had been hoped," said Mr. Wallace, "that discontinuance altogether this'year would have paved the way for the reopening of the colleges in all the four centres in 1935. Ihis board has always stood for teacher-training in each university centre, and it is quite immaterial to it whether it be carried out in separate training colleges under the boards, or as departments of the universities. . "I have had the opportunity of reading the scheme of training prepared by four professors of education, and I am more than ever inclined to the view that teacher-training will be placed on a better system under universities.
