CATHEDRAL'S NEEDS
POSITION IN CHRISTCHURCH The need for furnishings and improvements in the Christcliurch Anglican Cathedral was brought under the notice of members at the opening of the Anglican Synod by Bishop West-Watson. In his presidential address he spoke of the position of the Cathedral as follows: "The Cathedral cannot proiwrly develop those parochial organisations which minister to the needs of a parish church and it is badly in need of furnishings and improvements. It is surely not right that the Mother Church should be forgotten while the daughters are well cared for. Our Cathedral endowment funds are sadly curtailed by the depression. I.therefore commend to the diocese a plan initiated by Canon A. H. Norris, and now under the consideration of a special committee of the Chapter, for following the example of some of tho English cathedrals in establishing a Company of Friends who will make the Cathedral and its interests a special care. The duty of such care should not devolve only on Christchurch, for the Cathedral is the central Church of the whole diocese; 1 trust that no parish will be unrepresented if such a body of Friends is formed."
