AUSTRALIAN TITLES PLAY IN SEMI-FINALS RICHARDSON DEFEATED PROFESSIONAL CHAMPION By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received October 17, 8.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 17 The semi-finals of the amateur and professional golf championships of Australia were played to-day. A brisk southerly wind was blowing. Results are:— 'Amateurs E. Apperly defeated H. Hattersley, 3 and 2. T. McKay defeated P. Hughes, 4 and 3. Professionals M. Kelly' defeated V. Richardson, 1 up. W. Bolger defeated J. Petterson, 4 and 2. Apperly revealed all his old-time form in his defeat of Hattersley. In the other amateur match McKay was too steady for his opponent. Kelly showed better ability to cope with the windy conditions in his defeat of the professional title-holder Richardson. Bolger putted soundly in his match with Petterson. REMARKABLE ROUNDS SARAZEN AT TAMWORTH R. STEWARD'S PERFORMANCE (Received October 17. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 17 The American golfer Sarazen, playing to-day on the difficult Tamworth course, the par of which is 70, returned a card of 62. The previous best was Hagen's 66. The course was heavy after rain, but Sarazen's highest score for any hole was four. A message from Adelaide states that Rufus Steward played an amazing round of 63 at the Koyonga course. Par is 72.
