CLUBS* OFFICIAL OPENINGS | FUNCTION AT JELLICOE PARK The Jellicoe Park Tennis Club's season was officially opened on Saturday, when a large number of members and visitors was present. The president, Mr. L. Butterworth, welcomed the visitors and called on Mr. J. Edwards, a member of the Manurewa Town Board and one of the founders of the club, to ofhciallv open the courts on behalf of the patron, Mr. J. N. Massey, M.P., who was unable to be present. Mr Edwards spoke on the progress of the club and wished the club ft successful sea- j *on He then called on Miss K. Smith to serve the first ball of the- season. Miss J.i Cuthberteon. on behalf of the members*, ore- j i rented Mrs. English with n bouquet made | in the club's colours. A presentation was then made by Mrs. English, on behalf of . the members, to Miss C. Durham, who was i retiring from the office of secretary after j 14 years' service. Miss 15. ISicholson was presented with a silver cup for holding the position of top of the ladder. . A Yankee tournament was held during the afternoon and was won by Miss K. Bonner and Felton. ' W.Y.M.I. CLUB The W.Y.M.I. Tennis Club was favoured with excellent weather last Saturday, when the courts were officially opened by the president, the Rev. "W. "Walker, before an attendance of over 70 members and friends. A progressive tournament waß held, the winners being Miss W. Tinsley and A. Lowden.
