Golden Promise, owned by Mr. G. F. JUooro and trained by 0. Cox., of Hawera, won the first division of the Canonbury Stakes, in which Mr. W. R. 'Keni ball's /colt Whermsido was third. Nightly, owned by Mr. J. A. McI)ougall, of Wairarapa, and trained by F. D- Jones, gained his first success in Australia in the Randwick Plato, and King March, trained at Randwick by J. T. Jamieson, credited his Auckland owners, tho Hon. E. R. Davis and Mr. 0. Nicholson, with a good stake when he won the Waverley Handicap. Roy Reed, who rode Nightly into r.hircf place in the Metropolitan, which many consider tho horso was unlucky not to win, was allowed the fee for a winning ride on Nightly in the Randwick Plate. M.
