MISHAP AT CROSSING
CYCLIST'S NARROW ESCAPE THROWN CLEAR BY TRAIN Thrown clear of the track by a passing train as ho was cycling over the railway crossing in Church Street, near Southdown, about 7 a.m. yesterday, Mr. Lance C. Painter, of Queen Street, Onehunga, had a fortunate escape from serious injury. He received bruises and slight cuts on the left arm, the hand and head. After examination and treatment at the Auckland Hospital he was able to proceed home. On reaching the crossing, Mr. Painter stopped to allow a southbound train to pass. He failed to noticp another train approaching from tho opposite direction, and his bicycle was struck by the engine and hurled clear of the line. The train stopped, and tho cyclist was put on board and taken to Auckland.
