I ► THEFT FROM BEDROOM INTRUDER'S NARROW ESCAPE A gold watch, valued afc £3O was stolen from a house at 13 HaLston Road, Mount Eden, early on Saturday morn, ing, by a bare-footed thief who narrowly escaped being captured by the owner of the watch, Mr. A. Taylor, The intruder escaped by way of the ; front, door, which he bad left op*m, but dropped a haudbag belonging to Mrs. Taylor. A noise woke Mr. Taylor about 3.30 a.m. and Jiie saw a man in his bedroom, opening a wardrobe. He jumped out of "bed, arid the intruder promptly ran out the front door and disappeared. Mr. Taylor saw him clearly, however, and said later that he was about 6ft« tall, well built, and bare-footed. * Although the back door had not be"B locked, the thief took »' step-ladder from the house next door and entered through, thu pantry window. The watch was taken from the dressing table ia the bedroom.
