ROSEBERY CLUB'S OPENING The Rosebcry Tennis Club's courts at Birkenhead were declared open for the summer season by the patron, Mr. J. Prickett, at the official ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Knowles, wife of the president, served the first ball. A welcome to visitors from sister clubs was extended by the president, Mr._ A. E. Knowles, who stated that he anticipated that tho club's removal to the more cen-trally-situated lawns in Wairoa Avenue would result in building up a larger membership. Mr. W. S. fiarrett, president of the Birkdale Club, responded for the visitors. MARIST CLUB'S OPENING In ideal weather and with a large attendance, the new season was ushered in at the Marist, Tennis Club, Ponsonby, on Saturday afternoon. Many visitors were present from other clubs, and they were extended a hearty welcome by tho president, Mr. D. G. Rennie. The season waß formally opened by Bishop Liston. During the ofternoon a progressive tournament, in which over 100 players participated, was featured, the prize-winners being Miss K. Bonner and Mr. F. Scully. A splendid day's enjoyment was concluded with a tennis dance at-Point Erin in the evening, when trophies won last season were presented to the winners by the president, who in the courso of his remarks paid a fine tribute to the loyal and practical work of the club secretary, Mr. W. McDermott. PIPIROA CLUB'S OFFICERS [from our'own correspondent] THAMES, Sunday The annual meeting of the Pipiroa Tennis Club was presided over by Mr. Joseph Porter. The annual report stated that a second court had been laid down during the year and the other court top-dressed in readiness for the coming season. The balance-sheet showed a slight debit. The following officers were elected:—President, Mr. Joseph Porter; vice-president, Mr. J\ Galvin; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Brown; club captain, Mr. S.. W. Rolfe; committee, Messrs. P. Clark, B. Welch, Mrs. H. Brown. Misses T. Porter, J. Edwards. It was decided to open the courts on October 27.
