JEWELLERY FOUND
ALLEGED STOLEN GOODS ARRESTS MADE AT HOUSE THREE ACCUSED REMANDED The three persons who were arrested on Friday night 011 premises where the police took possession of a large quantity of jewellery alleged to have been stolen from Mr. James Pascoe's shop, Karangahape Road, a week earlier, appeared in the Police Court on Saturday. Hilda Jackson, aged 33, described as a domestic, was charged with receiving jewellery valued at £IOOO, the property of James I'ascoc, knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained. James McQuoid, blacksmith and butcher, aged 25, was charged with receiving a gold watch, valued at £5, from Jackson, knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained. Samuel Jainioson McKee, aged 23, labourer, was charged with being idle and disorderly, having no lawful means of support. On Inspector Edwards asking for. a week's remand, Mr. Sullivan, who appeared for Jackson and McQuoid, applied for bail. "If bail is granted, I ask that it should be substantial," said Inspector Edwards. "There was a large quantity of jewellery 011 tho premises, and the accused McQuoid, who was wearing the watch mentioned in tho charge, was attempting to dispose of it when the police arrived. There are manj* further inquiries to be made," Mr. Sullivan said that the woman was a boarding house keeper, with 10 boarders, and the fact that jewellery was found on the premises was no proof that she stolo it. Bail was fixed at £350 for Jackson and McQuoid, no application being made in respect of McKee. Accused were remanded until Saturday.
