REOPENING OF COLLEGES CONDITIONS OF ENTRY STATEMENT BY MINISTER [BY TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL REPORTER 1 WELLINGTON, Sunday Somo of tho conditions of entry to teachers' training colleges in Auckland and Christohurcb, when they reopen next year, wore explained by the Minister of Education, tho Hon. R. Masters, yesterday. , Mr. Masters indicated that, generally bpeaking, academic qualifications beyond the minimum necessary would be regarded as of secondary importance to personality and general fitness for teaching in k the selection of students. All applicants for admission to the colleges should apply to local education boards for application forms, a reprint of which would shortly be in the hands of the boards. The existing forms were obsolete and must not be used. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age. All applications for division A should reach the education board of the district in which the applicant lived not later than November I. Applicants for division C, however, should send their applications by the same date to the education board situated in tho centre of their university district,. Students wishing to enter under division A, who were this year sitting for the training college entrance examination, should notify the appropriate education board of their success immediately tho results were known. Applicants under division C must already have obtained a university degree. Results of forthcoming degree examinations could not be considered. Division A (two-year) students would receive £2O and division, C (one-year) students £3O a year, while those who were obliged to board away from home might receive an allowance of £4O a year repayable under a joint and several bond entered into by the student and his parent or guardian. A form of bond would be supplied by the education board controlling the training college to selected candidates who applied for this allowance.
