GREAT STOCK SALE

CATTLE AND PIGS PRICES AT MORRINSVILLE EXCELLENT COMPETITION [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] MORRINSVILLE, Friday Stock to the value of £IO,OOO changed hands at the Morrinsville sale to-day. The yarding comprised 1(300 head of cattle, 900 pigs and 500 sheep. It was the largest yarding of cattle seen at Morrinsville. Buyers numbered several hundred, and camo from as far afield as North Auckland, Awakir.o and Hawke's Bay. The principal attraction was the large entry of store cattle from the Tokomaru Bay and Wairoa districts. Most of the entry comprised female stock, which is not jtisually popular, but bidding was brisk throughout, and satisfactory prices were realised. Grown steers were in particularly keen demand, and the prices showed an improvement on recent Waikato values. Competition in the beef section was very keen, and Tuesday's Frankton rates were maintained. There were no piime heavy ox on offer, but mediumweight bullocks sold np to £l2, and year store steers to £6 6s. There was exceptionally keen competition in the pig section, and new price standards were set. Three different pens of prime heavy baconers sold at £4 5s per pig, while £4 was a common price. The advance in the baeoner section was reflected in the stores, and the whole yarding was sold at increased rates.

Fat sheep came forward in increased numbers, and prices throughout were in the vendors' favour. Prime hoggets represented the greater part of the yarding and sold well. The sale was conducted by the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, and four auctioneers were kept busy for three hours. One effect of the sale was the exceedingly busy witnessed in the town of Morrinsville. Cars were parked along each side of the main thoroughfare, and traffic was congested. Each

of the side streets was also used as a parking place for cars, the footpaths were thronged with pedestrians, and business was brisk in all the shops. In recent years Morrinsville has developed into one of the most important stock centres in the Dominion, and large numbers of all classes of stock change hands there every sale day. Friday There was an exceptionally large yarding of all classes of. stock at the Te Awamutu sale conducted by the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, yesterday. The recent advances in prices registered in other important centres were reflected at the sale, and the bidding throughout was brisk. Practically the whole of the yarding changed hands. Choice heavy bullocks realised up to £l4 7s 6d.
