HOSPITAL AUXILIARY
THE ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary was held in tho Penwomen's Club Rooms on Wednesday, the president, Mrs. E. A. Kidd. presiding. Much distress and hardship among hospital patients and their dependants was reported by the workers and district nurses. In fact, so much help Was given during the year that had it not l>een for the legacy of £SOO from the estate of the late Miss A. J. Wilson, the funds would have been overdrawn. Donations of 1920 garments were received from miscellaneous sources, and 8703 from the auxiliary's own branches. A total of 4862 garments was distributed; 161 ex-patients were helped with orders for extra food and 669 families with clothing. A big item in the expenditure was the fares for outpatients going to the hospital for treatments This is a very important part of the work, as the tram tickets that are provided enable the people to receive the massage and' treatment of the special hospital departments so essential to their complete recovery. It was decided to extend the activities of the organisation to the Mental Hospital. This branch is under tie presidency of Mrs. David Nathan, «.nd has been very sympathetically received. The city sewing circle, under the governorship of Mrs. Carr-Smith, sent in 2037 garments to the depot, and the purchasing and distributing committee convened by Mrs. J. R. Whitaker, sent in donations of 490 garments nnd 5G7 earn .en ts made from auxiliary material. This work has been done mainly by the women's institutes. Mesdames Bolitbo And Maguire collected £6 14s 10 Id from the boxes ieft in the various hotels. The wireless committee which is convene! by Mrs. Mary M. Drearer has looked after the wireless in the hospital and installed new crystal sets. Sister Mulcock, who is in charge of the tuberculosis dispensary at the in:irmary. reports having helped 51 cases, other th«fn those in Mount Eden, with extra nourishment, to an approximate cost of The election of officers resulted: — Patroness, the Mayoress, Mrs. G.
