MATAMATA'S STATUS
ELEVATION TO BOROUGH POLL OF ELECTORS TAKEN [from OCR OWN correspondent] MATAMATA, Thursday A poll on a proposal to constitute the Matamata town district a borough resulted in a five to one majority in favour of the proposal. The returns were:—For, 174;. against, 34; informal, 5. Of the 715 residents eligible to vote. 213 exercised the privilege. To form a town district into *f borough the area must have a population of 1000. Matamata's popidation i»f estimated at 1200. The borough \rill probably be constituted as from April 1 1 next.
