THE LEAGUE CODE

WESTERN SUBURBS' VISIT A STRONG COMBINATION MATCH AGAINST MARIST TEAM The eagerly awaited tour of the Western Suburbs Rugby League Club, of Sydney, will be commenced at Carlaw Park to-morrow, when the visitors will play Marist. Western Suburbs won the New South Wales championship this season and is reported to be a very clever team, which always plays bright, open and attractive..football. The team will be at a disadvantage as it will not arrive until to-morrow morning. Marist made a fine showing against Richmond in the final! of the Auckland Rugby League's Roop© Rooster knockout competition and a good guide as to Western Suburbs' strength should be gained after to-uiorrow's match. Providing the conditions remain fine the ground will be to the liking of the visiting team, which is accustomed to hard grounds in Sydney. Commenting on the Western Suburbs team, a Sydney writer says:—The team had a highly appropriate finish in the defeat of Eastern Suburbs in the final match, under the leadership of Frank McMillan, the international fullback. McMillan, on many occasions this winter, has risen to heights comparable with any he ever reached in the past. For a man well advanced intp the thirties he has maintained his form in a very remarkable way. After the tour of his team in New Zealand he will retire, rle has played football in the fullback position with such brilliancy in running, trickiness of foot and touch-line kicking for distance and accuracy as will leave many happy impressions on the big crowds. There has been nothing better in fiveeighths play than that which Victor Hey, of Western Suburbs, has shown. His defence hns been superb in every match. And in attack, at times, lie has reached the ideal. Hey has been a veritable corkscrew in his dodging and winding runs. The spectators have rarely seen such brilliant all-round wing-threequarter play as Alan Ridley, the big Western Suburbs player, has shown on tho right wing. Ridley has that rare- sense of anticipation on both attack and defence, allied with great speed and strength. The teams for the match are as follows: —

Western Suburbs. —Fullback, A. Sliarman; threequarters, A. Ridley, V. Sheehan, S. Taucred, J. Lynch (one to be omitted): fiveeighths, R. Knight, V. Hey; halfback, P. Williams; forwards, J. O'Connell, M. Gray. P. Fairall, C. Cornwell, F. Sponberg, A. Blake, J. Hinds (one to be omitted).

Marist.—Fullback, Campbell; threequarters. Loader. Furlonger, Smith; five-eighths, Brisbane, Glover; halfback, Grotte; forwards, Laird, Carter, Webberley, Clark, Keano, Bakalich. Emergencies: Chalmers, Steven, Gunn.
