GOOD WELLSFORD YARDING TOTAL CLEARANCE EFFECTED [by telegraph—own correspondent] WELLSFORD, Thursday At a special store cattle sale conducted by Alfred Buckland and Sons, Limited, to-day, about 1500 head were yarded. There was a large and representative bench of buyers and competition was keen for all quality cattle. Values showed a marked advance on current rates Waikato and South Auckland graziers were heavy buyers, lifting practically all the bigger cattle. A total clearance was effected, the sale being one of the best store sales held in the province for some years. Mrs. Macky, of Seaview Station, Wh'arehine, obtained the top price with a line of extra heavy well-forward Polled Angus steers at £8 ss, Mr. G. Urquhart being the purchaser. Another line of 30 moderately heavy Polled Angus steers in fairly forward condition from Seaview Station realised £6 Is. Three two-year Shorthorn steers from Mjss Yates, Te Hana, were sold to a local buyer at £8 2s 6d. WESTFIELD QUOTATIONS A large yarding of store cattle was offered at the Westfield weekly stock sale yesterday, the numbers heing cleared at rates equal to last week's values. A few fat cows offering were in keen demand and realised up to £5 12s 6d. Other lines sold freely. The yarding of dairy cattle was somewhat under the recent average, and there was a very keen demand for quality cows in milk and close to profit. Competition for backward stock and _ poorer quality was only fair. Jersey cows in milk and Jersey heifers of best quality realised up to £6 ss, and others in good condition made over £5. Shorthorn cowa met with a keen demand, and the top price for this breed was £6. Good herd cows realised prices averaging £5. MATAMATA QUOTATIONS There waa an extra heavy yarding of fat and store cattle at the Farmers' Co-opera-tive Auctioneering Company'a fortnightly stock sale at Matamata on Prime fat heifers and cows in most cases maintained ruling rates, while second auality cattle were harder to quit. A heavy yarding of yearling heifers attracted good competition and in most cases a aatiafactory sale resulted. A medium yarding of dairies, mostly second quality, met with a fair demand. A good entry of sheep met with fair competition, prices being slightly easier 'on fats. A very large yarding of all classes t)f pigs came forward and sold at advanced rates, especially for baconerß, which reached £4 _lB. Pricea gonerally hardened under keen competition, and most values, especially in the store section, were above ratea ruling recently. A splendid clearance was . made, and a large proportion of the Btock sold will go to other districts. Fat cattle were of good average quality.
