OTAHUHU BOROUGH
OUTDOOR STAFF INCREATSEO A'recommendation by its Works Committee that it employ three additional men temporarily on the outdoor staff was adopted by the Otahuhu Borough Council on Wednesday night. Tho Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, said the committee felt it ! would be advisable to take this step in view of the restrictions now placed on the employment of relief labour. Advice was received from the Unem-ployment-Board that a further grant of £ISOO, to be expended on relief work wages on improvements to Sturgef Park, had been authorised. The council decided to co-opcratr with the Great South Road Beautifying Council in carrying out tree-planting improvenments to the frontage of tho Police Department property on Great South Road, The department's grant of £5 was being subsidised by the beautifying council. A suggestion that the council should consult the ratepayers on a proposal that the town water supply should bp drawn from the Auckland City Council eources was advanced. The City Council advised that it was prepared to supply water through a 15in. mam laid to the Otahuhu boundary at Is per 1000 gallons for a term of 21 years, revision of the rate to be made at the end of seven-yearly periods.
It was decided to refer the Citv Council's letter to the Finance Committee for a report.
