WATER BOARD BILL
WITHDRAWAL OF TAKAPUNA A decision to withdraw its support of the Auckland Provincial Water Board Bill was reached at a meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council on Wednesday, following advice that the Devonport Borough Council had taken the same course. It was considered that the bill would not be satisfactory unless it included the whole of the metropolitan area. ''Even if the bill were passed, the local bodies which are supporting it at present could not finance a scheme for bringing water from the Waikato," said the Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven. "That seems to bo the only supply in view. Moreover, a main to supply these bodies would be too small if the city and the North Shore boroughs came in later."
