CONFERENCE DECISIONS

MEN WANTED FROM OVERSEAS NEXT CONTESTS AT DUNEDIN [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] HASTINGS, Thursday The annual conference of the New Zealand Boxing Association was held at Hastings to-day. The president, Mr. D. li. N ewbigin, presided. The conference was opened by the Mayor. Mr. G. A. Maddison, who wished the sport of boxing a successful futuro. Mr. W. Talbot (Wellington) criticised the making of grants to associations short of their quota of fees. He expressed a doubt whether, in view of the fact that each association had only one representative in 20 years and that the total cost in that time was £2500, international contests were worth hold-

ing. Mr. G. Bush (Auckland) answered that no commitment for future tours had been made. The position was still open. Mr. Bush added that the possibility of a trip to Australia as a prize for merit no doubt had stimulated boxing. . „ Adoption of Remits

Among the remits carried were the following: That support be given to all sporting bodies in an attempt to bring about a reduction in, or tho abolition of, the amusement tax on sporting fixtures; that nominations of boxers for the New Zealand championships shall not bo accepted from any association other than that by which the boxer is registered, unless with the consent of the association concerned; that the ban prohibiting the appearance of coloured boxers in professional contests in New Zealand shall be removed, provided always that permission for the appearance" of the boxer is obtained from the Boxing Council. That where an association desires the appearance at its tournament of a team of amateur boxers from another district, the negotiations and arrangements for the appearance of such team shall be conducted through the association in whose district such team resides, and the team shall not be advertised as representing its province without tho consent of the association concerned, that arrangements be made with tho New Zealand Boxing Council to forward to associations monthly a bulletin giving particulars of all future boxing contests arranged and held under its jurisdiction, together with the names and weights of the professional contestants, the value of the purse or the percentage basis, and the date and narue and place of the tournament, also that all associations make every endeavour to co-operate with the council in supplying this information. Retiring Title-holders

That any boxer who holds three professional titles and who retires undefeated shall be presented with a certiticate in recognition thereof. Artie Hay i$ to receive the first certificate. That the New Zealand Boxing Council arrange for the importation of overseas boxers to New Zealand, and that the boxers while in the Dominion shall be under the control of the council, which shall arrange suitable matches in the various centres. It was resolved by 63 votes to 55 to hold the next championship contests at Dunedin. The only other application taken was that of Christchurch. Owing to the absence of sponsors those of Greymouth and Timaru lapsed. The election of ofcicers resulted:— President, Mr. W. D. Wilson (Otago), vice-presidents, Messrs D. H. bigin (Hawke's Bay) and A. H. Lurtayne (Wellington). The appeal committee, trustees and council and all the individual officers were re-elected. The treasurer estimated the income at £I3OO and expenditure at £1213 for the current year. From July to September the income was £ll6 above last year's estimates. 1 On Mr. Talbot's motion it was decided that there be no commitment entered into with regard to the international contest with lJob without the consent of the 1935 conference.
