DESCRIPTION OF BOUTS

SOME LIVELY EXHIBITIONS FORM OF THE AUCKLANDERS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HASTINGS, Thursday In the second semi-final of the bantam-weight Cadwallader (Wairarapa) met Kelly (Auckland), and in a lively and bright tussle the took the fight to his man in the first round, but Cadwallader made effective use of a straight left and a right swing. Honours were about even until the third.round, when Cadwalladet let himself go to win narrowly. Smith , (Auckland) and Gordon '(Taranaki) ' contested the second feather-weight semi-final. There wero some good rallies, the Auckla rider having slightly the better of things at long raiigej but he was inclined to mixthings at close quarters. This proved his undoing, although the margin in favour of Gordon was narrow. Another local representative figured in the last of the light-weight series, Wyllie (Napier) meeting Hogg (Auckland) in an even contest fought for the most part at long range. The Aucklander got in with some clever blows earlv in the piece to win.

Parris , (Wellington) encountered Mudgway (Waikato) in the first of the evening's welter-weight contests, and from the outset he took the fight to the northerner, who. however, ismothered well, and came back to give as much as he received. Parris hammered away through three lively rounds to win. Matchett (Gisborae) met Martin

'(Auckland) in the first middle-weight contest, and the Maori strove hard to take the short route, but the Aucklander effectively kept at close quarters and almost secured a knock-out in the final" rally, which secured for him the verdict.

In the second middle-weight semifinal Martin (Auckland) met Davis (Wairarapa). The first round was even, hut in the second Martin wont ahead on points as a result of his taking the fight to his man and breaking through hi;; opponent's guard with hard blows to the head. They were both going full out in the fmai round, the decision going to Martin. Making his second appearance, this time in the heavy-weight division, Bourne (Christchurch) met Hepburn

(Auckland) in the first heavy-weight contest. Tt was a slogging match and the Aiicklatiflcr was in difficulties at the end of the first round, but came out to take further punishment. He remained on bis feet, but Inst on points.
