MORRINSVILLE'S PROGRESS CELEBRATIONS NEXT MONTH FOUR DAYS' PROGRAMME [FROM OUR own CORHI-:srO,\DKNT"| MORRINSVJLLE, Thuruday Sixty years of remarkable progress from a wilderness of scrub and swamp to one of the most closely-settled districts of the Auckland Province is to

be commemorated by residents of the Morrinsville district next month.

Proposals for celebrating the Morrinsville district's diamond jubilee were discussed at a meeting convened by the Mayor, Mr. W. T. Osborne, and held at the Borough Council chambers last night. Representatives of the Piako County Council, Chamber of Commerce. Farmers' Union, school committee, friendly societies and drainage boards were present.

It was agreed that functions extending over four days, and concluding with a combined religious service on a Sunday afternoon would be appropriate.

The jubilee is a double one iu that October of this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the railway from Auckland as far as Morrinsville. The Mayor read correspondence from officials of the Railway Department offering co-operation in making the jubilee week a success. Thursday, October 25, was selected as the first day for the celebrations. In the morning it is proposed to open the new municipal buildings, erected at a cost of approximately £2OOO. Following this ceremony there will be a luncheon for old settlers, and in the evening a jubilee ball. On Friday, October 26, old settlers, particularly those revisiting the town, are to be taken for a tour of the district to observe the progress of recent years. In the evening the main street will be closed for traffic and a gala carnival night is planned, with fancy dress parade for the children, and a band programme, ts some of the attractions. A sports day in which the friendly societies, the Agricultural and Pastoral Society, and school committee will co-operate is planned for Saturday, October 27.

The jubilee celebrations will conclude with a religioua service on Sunday, October 28, arranged by the ministers of the district.
